With a width of 372.3 mm, length of 246.5 mm, and a varying height from the lowest 26.8 mm (front side) to the highest 39.6 mm (back side), the Aspire 5517 series has a standard starting weight of 5.9 lb. (2.7kg) depending on configuration (with integrated AC adapter).
Because of the physical dimensions, Acer included within the Aspire 5517 series the 99-key full-size keyboard, independent numeric keypad, international language support, Eight function, four cursor, two Microsoft Windows keys, WLAN, touchpad lock easy-launch button, Play/pause, stop, previous, next media keys printed on keyboard, Touchpad pointing device. Acer delivered the Aspire 5517 series with a medium range of interface ports: DC-in, RJ-45 LAN, VGA, Headphones/speaker/line-out, Microphone, two USB 2.0, and 5-in-1 card reader for optional MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO or xD-Picture Card.
The built-in AC adapter eliminates additional bulky baggage and unnecessary extras, while the removable lithium-ion batteries provided up to up to 2.5 hours life depending on configuration and usage (may be reduced if Windows Vista Aero is enabled). By using the Integrated TI Radeon HD 3200 graphics or Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1200 graphics, Acer enabled better external video resolutions, with a maximum external video resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, at 16.7 million colors, and non-interlaced resolution with max. refresh rate: 1,280 x 1,024. Furthermore, Acer embedded within the Aspire 5517 Dolby-optimized surround-sound system with two integrated stereo speakers (Optimized second-generation Dolby Sound Room audio enhancement; Microsoft DirectSound compatibility; Headphones/speaker/line-out with SPDIF support).
The Aspire notebooks were shipped with Acer InviLink 802.11b/g wireless LAN, WI-FI CERTIFIED, 10/100 LAN, Wake-on-LAN ready. Moreover, Acer included within the Aspire laptop the following software applications: Acer eRecovery Management, Acer GameZone, Acer GridVista, Acer Launch Manager, Adobe Acrobat Reader, McAfee Internet Security Suite (trial version), Microsoft Works 8.5 (full version), Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 (60-day trial), NTI Media Maker.
The Aspire 5517 notebooks were delivered with one-year parts and labor limited warranty with concurrent International Traveler’s Warranty. From the technological point of view, the Aspire 5517 was succeeded by the other Aspire 5xxx products, which currently includes the following Aspire models, such as Aspire 5810 Timeline, Aspire 5741, Aspire 5740, Aspire 5739, Aspire 5738, Aspire 5735, Aspire 5732, Aspire 5542, Aspire 5538, Aspire 5535, Aspire 5534, Aspire 5532, and Aspire 5515.
