Everyone of us needs a laptop computer even if he does not have the physic possibilities to use any laptop computer model. Before the apparition of laptop computers, people with different disabilities had only the possibility to be tied to their desktop computers without having the freedom and chance to use the new technology or other devices meant to improve their living conditions at home.
Many laptop computer software and hardware manufacturers have modified the programs of their laptop computers and hardware in order to accept devices that will help the disabled people. This kind of concept of auxiliary hardware for laptop computers and other more devices is called assisted technology. This assisted technology concept means that regular laptop computers for disabled people have to be manufactured with laptop computer parts, such as chips and processors, that are integrated into the laptop computer with the purpose of handle external devices for the people who have disabilities. Laptop computers manufacturers (Dell, Hewlett Packard, Gateway) have made portals and devices on their laptops in order that the assistance technology devices to be integrated into the Hardware.
Also, Software companies (Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and Linux) have chose to make part of this concept and have joined laptop computers hardware manufacturers (Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard) and IBM to integrate Software for the disabled persons into their operating systems. The assistive technology companies had lots of benefices taking into account the fact that the software to operate the components are already on the system. For instance, Windows operating system from the XP, Vista and Windows 7 version have some specialized software programs which are appropriate to be integrated with special hardware for the disabled people.

Now, I think it is time to present the proprieties that a laptop computer for disabled people has it. I must say from the beginning that the characteristics of this kind of laptop computers depend on the needs each person has it. The needs are shared. Some persons may need devices for speech control and other persons may need voice activation commands received from a hardware device. A good example of assistive technology device is the “No-Hands Mouse” created by Hunter Digital Incorporation. This device, which controls the mouse by using 2 footswitches placed on the floor, controlling in this way the cursor of the mouse with the foot, is very adequate for those persons who have a hand disability or even no hands.
Concerning the size of such a laptop computer model, I will say to you that, again, all depends on the needs that each person has it. For instance, if the person is that kind who always wants to go and travel, the appropriate laptop computer would be a small one.

A basic laptop computer has the price of 500 dollars and up to 2,000 dollars. Before buying this kind of laptop computer, you must take into consideration what is it achieved for (work or entertainment) and which are the extra devices needed for the disabled person who wants something efficient.
