The computers had really evolved in the last decades. Many years ago they were very big devices that were capable of doing just some simple operations. But today they had became really small and thin devices, that are also capable of doing very advanced operations. Since the desktop computers are still quite large, we are talking here about the notebooks (or laptops). A notebook is much smaller than a desktop computer, and still has all of  its components. Only that these components are much smaller, thinner, and placed very close one to another. There are many companies that are producing good notebooks,  and here are some examples: Hewlett Packard, Acer, Asus, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Fujitsu, MSI and Apple.

Today we are going to focus on just 2 of them, and this time we’ll choose Dell and Acer. Dell is the second largest producer of computers in the world and Acer is the third one, so they are both very good companies that are among the top 3 of the world. So we’ll choose 2 laptops from each company, two that have the same display screen size, and about the same price and then we’ll compare the 2 small notebooks and see which company offers the best features for that price.

From Dell we’ll choose the Inspiron 1464 laptop, which comes with a display screen of 14 inch and a price of 550 dollars. This one can be bought with the classic black design, but you can also choose from 4 colors and more than 200 different artist design models. The screen has 14 inch in diagonal and offers High Definition view. The technical details are quite good, allowing you to take care of the simple activities such as writing documents or browsing the internet, but also to do more advanced activities such as playing a video game or editing a movie. If you want to have a longer battery life, you can choose the optional 9 cell battery that offers up to 8 hours and 9 minutes of life. And now here are the complete technical details for the Insipron 1464:
-         Processor – Intel ® Core ™ i3 – 330 M
-         operating system – Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) (this may depend on the store where you buy the laptop from)
-         memory – 2 GB DDR 3 1066 MHz
-         Graphics engine – Intel ® HD Graphics
-         Hard drive – 250 GB HDD ( 5400 rpm)
-         Optical drive – 8 X CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD + / – R Drive)
-         Other features –  14.0 ” HD WLED, high definition audio 2.0, Dell Wireless 1397, 6 cell  Lithium Ion battery, integrated 1.3 m pixel webcam, price 549 dollars.

And now let’s discuss about a similar laptop from the company Acer, and we’ll choose the Acer Aspire 4810 Timeline AS 4810 TZ-4011. This laptop also has a display screen of 14 inch, and a pretty similar price. This one also comes in black, but there aren’t other choices in colors or design. It has a weight of 4.2 lbs, which means that you can easily carry it with you. It has quite a good battery life, and offers you nice performances. The technical details for this Acer Aspire AS 4810 TZ-4011 are:
-         Processor – Intel ® Pentium ® Processor SU2700 (2 MB L 2 cache, 1.30 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
-         operating system – Windows Vista ® Home Premium ; 32 bit version (64 bit) (this may depend on the store where you buy the laptop from)
-         memory – 3 GB DDR 3 1066 Mhz

-         Graphics engine – Intel ® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD
-         Hard drive – 320 GB HDD ( 5400 rpm)
-         Optical drive – DVD-SuperMulti drive
-         Other features –  5 in 1 card reader, 14 inch display, 802.11 b / g/ Draft N WLAN, gigabit LAN, webcam

From what we can see from the technical details the models are pretty much the same, but there are though some differences that are making the Dell Inspiron much better. And the first main difference is at the processor, and the Intel Core i3 from the Dell model is much better than the Intel ® Pentium ® Processor from the Acer laptop. The next difference is at the RAM memory, and here the Acer model is better (the Dell laptop has 2 GB while the Acer model has 3 GB). The Acer model seems to take the lead and this is because it has a larger hard drive (the Dell has 250 GB and the Acer – 320 GB).  So by now it seems like the models are pretty much the same. But there are just 2 small differences, that make the Dell model to be slightly better. First of all it comes with a version of Windows 7 (instead of Windows Vista for the Acer) and it is also available in many colors. So if these two aspects are important to you then you can choose the Dell Inspiron 1464, and they aren’t you can choose any of the two models because they are pretty much the same in performance, price and dimensions .
