Wireless Technology
Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on Jul 06 2010, in the categories: General info, notebooks
Wireless technology helps you get rid of cables and let you use your laptop and outside the office. As technology advances, wireless starts to become increasingly common in our homes. However, wireless connection must be born in certain parameters for a good operation. Here’s what you can do to make sure you have a wireless connection efficiency. Wireless signal reaches a distance of more than 100 square feet, but walls or large objects may cause interference. For this reason, the wireless router should be centrally located in your home to ensure the best signal possible. Sit router on a flat surface but not on the floor and away from obstacles (large pieces of furniture) or metal objects. The closer the routers are obstacles, the more severe interference and thus are weaker connection. Give attention to the fact that there might be interference from a neighboring wireless signal. Make sure you use a single wireless channel to limit interference.
Antennas supplied with most routers are small, with omni-directional capabilities. These antennas broadcast signals in all directions. They can be useful if you need wireless in the house, but its signal is very short. If the router is near a wall, window, half the signal will be sent out of the house and much of the power router will be wasted. Most routers do not allow you to increase the capacity of energy, but you can use it more effectively. A directional antenna can improve the signal, a signal focusing specifically permitting you to use it in the direction you need. These antennas are often called “high-gain” and increase the signal that is measured in decibels (dB).

Wireless network signal has to be sent from and to a PC. Sometimes, the router can deliver strong enough signal to reach the computer, but it can not send signals back to the router. You can improve this wireless network adapter if you replace the computer with a USB adapter that uses an external antenna. Consider purchase of a wireless network adapter, USB High-gain, which can significantly improve the signal. The wireless notebooks with built-in wireless typically have excellent antennas and do not need to upgrade adapters.
A wireless repeater is the most easy and secure to boost wireless signal. A repeater operates as a router, but instead to create the signal, it relay on the existing one. A repeater is easy to install and requires no additional cables or connections. Just sit it midway between the wireless access point and your computer and you get a wireless signal amplifier power immediately. Router manufacturers regularly make free improvements of software routers. Sometimes, they may provide a boost in performance and access to new features. To obtain the latest software updates for your router, visit the site of the producer.
Wireless routers can deliver on many different channels on the same principle which operates radio stations. Like sometimes you can refer interference on a radio station while another is perfectly clear, just like this the wireless signal is sometimes better or worse. Try to change the channel on the router of its configuration page to check if your signal improves. You do not have to change the configuration of the computer because the new channel will be detected automatically.

If you have phones or other wireless electronics in your home, your computer may not perceive the router over the “noise” of these devices. Therefore it is appropriate to avoid wireless electronics that use 2.4 GHz frequency. Search, instead, the electronics that utilize frequencies like 5.8 GHz and 900MHz. Although a router can work with a network adapter to a different provider, you can often get better performance if you choose both products of the same company. Some suppliers offer performance up to twice as high when using router and network adapter from the same producer.
802.11b is the most common type of wireless network, but 802.11g is five times faster. 802.11g is compatible with 802.11b, so you can still use any 802.11b equipment that you have. If you use 802.11b and want a stronger signal, consider replacing your router and network adapter compatible with 802.11g equipment. If you want to buy a whole new equipment, definitely choose 802.11g.

Fast enough to support multiple HDTV streams, 802.11n promises to make a 802.11g look like a wireless dial-up. Wireless networks have reached a wanted fashion and luxury for many, but any technology that catches the public is doomed to disappoint expectations that are created. We all want to be able to download high-definition home videos in minutes, not hours. Storing content network could be a component of the digital home, but the transfer of the files last forever, which is not what engineers that created 802.11 had in mind. In fact, engineers have always imagined Wi-Fi network of a home or office as the backbone of all digital broadcasting, not as a substitution for cable networks.
Upgrading the wireless technology is more than a step forward, it’s a leap. In 2005, AirGo Networks launched 802.11g MIMO Gen3 technology, routers from Linksys and Netgear have finally broke the barrier of 100 Mbps Ethernet. This record is shattered by 802.11n. It’s primarily a progress at the rate of progress chapter (you can imagine it as the Wi-Fi 2.0), but there are other advantages.

It is a good idea to buy a wireless router, especially if you have a laptop. It will provide an opportunity to be connected to the Internet without cables and it will offer increased security. Even though more and more notebooks and PDAs have integrated support for Wi-Fi, old appliances require some upgrades. Since these devices include: PC-Card adapter, USB and Compact Flash Card.
If the new PC is a notebook, freedom can begin. In this case, switching to a wireless LAN (Local Area Network) creates new horizons: wireless local area network has a range of 50 meters, enough that you can get out on the balcony, terrace or garden and surf on the Internet. All laptops and especially notebooks that were created in the last four years have Wi-Fi. All the companies that are producing laptops and notebooks are making wireless notebooks.

HP EliteBook 8440w. Another gaming laptop from Hewlett-Packard laptop computers, this HP EliteBook 8440w, makes its self some place on the market and received some very favorable reviews from users who laid hands on it. It seems that everyone is impressed by the power given by Intel Core i7-620M (obviously, because is the latest appearance in terms of quad core processor) and video card NVIDIA Quadro FX 380mA. In fact, the laptop seems to be entirely impressive. But since nothing is perfect in this world, the HP EliteBook 8440w has two small weaknesses: too much heat (no wonder, if you think on what components are crammed into the back screen of 14 inches) and comes with a touchpad that is too small. The keyboard does not seem to be too great either, because having its buttons too small.
Hewlett-Packard notebooks are ones of the first laptops with USB 3.0 technology. USB 3.0 technology is the successor to the current USB 2.0. The new features of Universal Serial Bus version 3.0 include how to transfer SuperSpeed, providing a fourth mode of data transfer at speeds of 4.8 Gbit/s. Who Makes The Best Notebook Computers
Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on May 22 2010, in the categories: notebooks
“Who makes the best notebook computers?”…this is a big question and anyone interested in buying a laptop would want to know the answer to this question. But this answer is not simple at all. There are so many good producers of laptops in the world, and here are some examples: HP, Dell, Asus, Lenovo, Acer, Apple, Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu, MSI, Alienware, Gateway and others. Each of these companies offers so many different models of laptops, some of them really good, others weaker and cheaper, so we can’t say that a certain company makes the best laptops in the world. The top 5 of the largest personal computers vendors in the world is: HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba. But we can’t say that this is the same order in case of the quality of laptops. HP is the best vendor of computers because it offers many products that are quite cheap, and accessible to many people, but who are not really powerful. Of course HP produces some very good, high end laptops and computers too, but those are not selling so good as the cheap ones.
Those were the 5 best companies in terms of sells, but in terms of quality there are other companies that are really good. And here we are talking about Apple and Alienware, companies that are not offering cheap and accessible models, but who are offering more expensive and really powerful laptops. For example Alienware offers just high end notebooks, that are made for advanced gaming activities. But a laptop like that will be good for any kind of activity, and not just for video games. So if you want to know a company that makes only powerful and expensive laptops, Alienware would be the answer.

But this doesn’t mean that the answer to the question Who makes the best notebook computers in the world would be Alienware. As we said, there are many good companies on the market, and most of them offer both cheap (but weak) or expensive (but very powerful) laptops. After all it is a matter of personal preferences, and deciding which will be the best laptop features for you and your usual computer activities. So now let’s discuss more about a really powerful laptop, and this time we’ll choose the Toshiba Qosmio X 500-S 1801. This is a high end laptop, with very good features and a price of around 1,400 dollars. One of its best features would be the processor, that is an Intel Core i7 720 QM with Quad Core technology and a speed of 1.6 GHz. The RAM memory is also very good, and it is a 4 GB DDR 3 SDRAM with 1066 Mhz.
This one can even be expanded by the user, for up to 8 GB. We should have mentioned this first, because it is the first thing that you notice at any laptop – and we are talking here about the display screen, and this model has a large and really good widescreen TFT display of 18.4 inch diagonal and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (who also features HighBrightness and TruBite technologies). The overall dimensions of this laptop are: (W x D x H) 17.4 in x 11.6 in x 1.7 in and the weight is 9.7 lbs. So yes…it is quite a large and heavy laptop compared to others, but this is because of the large display screen of 18.4 inch. After all you can’t have a really large screen (so a very good video quality) and have a very small and light laptop at the same time.

So now let’s get back to the inside of this laptop, and its hard drive is a 500 GB Serial ATA -150 drive, with 7200 rpm. So it is a really good one, and you will have more than enough space to store all your information. The graphics engine is a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360 M TurboCache with a video memory of 1 GB GDDR 5 SDRAM, so it is a really powerful video card, that can support even the most advanced video games and software applications. It also features a CD-DVD optical drive (with Blu-ray support) and a 5 in 1 card reader (with support for SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard and xD-Picture Card).
And of course like any other laptop today it has both wireless and Ethernet connectivity for easy access to the internet. It also features all the ports you might need, including a HDMI port and comes with an installed version of the Windows 7 Professional Edition 64 bit and with other useful software applications. So you can use this laptop right after you have bought it.
Best Overall Laptop
Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on May 21 2010, in the categories: notebooks
HP, Dell, Asus, Lenovo, Acer, Apple, Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu, MSI, Alienware and Gateway. In case you are wondering what is the deal with all of these names, well you should know that these are the names of the best producers of laptops in the world. There are a few others besides them, and each one offers many different models of notebooks. So in order to buy one you will have a lot of opportunities to choose from, and that’s why it can be quite a difficult task to choose the perfect laptop. It all depends on the activities that you are planning to do, but if you will buy a powerful, high end laptop, it will easily handle any kind of computer activity. But of course, to buy such a laptop you will need a lot of money because it will be really expensive.
So now we’ll try to find out which will be the features needed for the best overall laptop. Well first of all it will need a really powerful processor, since this component is the “heart” of any computer or laptop. The best processors for laptops on the market these days are the Intel i5 and Intel i7, so if you buy a laptop with one of them, you can be sure that it has a powerful processor. The next feature to consider will be the RAM memory, and 4 GB of DDR 3 memory or even more will be just great. The maximum RAM memory that you can find on a laptop these days is 8 GB. So with these 2 feature your laptop will run smooth and fast, and you will be able to run about any software application or video game. But you will also need a place to store all of your files, and this is why you need a really big hard drive. The biggest default hard disc that you can find on a laptop today has 500 GB, but there are hard drive of 1 TB (1,000 GB) that can be bough separately, and which can replace the one from your laptop. But 500 GB will be quite enough for most of the users.

You can copy all of those files from the internet (so this means that you will need both wireless and Ethernet connectivity), but you can also copy them from CD-s and DVD-s. And to do this you will also need a good optical drive. One that can read and write CDs and DVDs with double layer support is a good one, but the best on the market will be an optical drive with Blu-ray support. Blu-ray discs are even better than DVD-s, and they can store between 25 to 50 GB (single layer) and between 50 and 100 GB (dual layer). So they are quite very powerful compared to CDs and DVDs, and you will be able to store a lot of information on them, including High Definition videos.

So now that we got to the videos, let’s discuss more about the display screen of the best overall laptop. All of the screens today are widescreens (16:9 aspect ratio) and most of them offer good colors, so the only feature to consider will be the size of the screen (diagonal). And this is a matter of personal taste. We can’t say that the bigger the screen the better the laptop, because a laptop with a screen of 20 inch for example, would be really big and really heavy, so it won’t be so portable anymore. And let’s not forget that portability is the biggest advantage of a laptop compared to a desktop PC. The other extreme is not ok either…it is true that a laptop with a very small screen (for example 10 inch) it is very portable, but the video quality won’t be so good in that case. So probably the best solution would be between them, and a laptop with a screen of 15.6 inch or 17 inch will be the best one, and it will offer both a good video quality and a good portability for the laptop.
Other features to consider at a powerful laptop would be the graphics engine, the built in webcam with microphone, the media card reader (at least a 5 in 1 reader) and also the ports that it has. Any laptop has 2 or 3 USB ports (3 would be better), audio ports, Ethernet port and other basic ones. But a good laptop will also need to have a HDMI port, so that you can connect it to a High Definition TV.
So these were about all the features needed for a really powerful, high end laptop. There are many of them on the market, from different producers, and they usually have a price of more than 1,000 dollars (and some can even go at 2,000 dollars).
Best Notebook Reviews
Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on May 15 2010, in the categories: notebooks
So far we made many reviews on some of the best notebooks, and today we’ll make another one. This time we’ll choose one of the best models made by HP. As you may already know Hewlett Packard (or simply HP) is a large American multinational company, the largest information technology company in the world and also the largest seller of personal computers in the world. So when you are talking about the HP products, you definitely talk about some good and quality products. This company has a long history b ehind, and it was founded in 1939, by Bill Hewlett and David Packard (so this is where the name comes from). The company offers many kinds of electronic devices, including computers, laptops, Computer Monitors, Digital Cameras, Mobile Phones, Networking devices, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA-s), Printers, Scanners, Servers and storage devices.
So now we’ll make a short review on one of the best notebooks from HP, the HP EliteBook 8440 w. And since a really good product is always expensive, it’s the same with this laptop too, and it has a price of 1,589 dollars. But of course for these money you will get really powerful features. And it is not a really big laptop either, and it has a 14 inch TFT widescreen display, with a resolution of 1600 x 900. Its dimensions are: 13.2 in x 9.3 in x 1.2 in (WxDxH) and its weight is just 5.3 lbs. So you can easily travel with this one. Its processor is a really powerful one, the Intel Core i7 620 M with a speed of 2.66 Ghz (Max Turbo Speed 3.33 Ghz). The chipset type is a Mobile Intel QM 57 Express and the data bus speed is 1066 mhz. The RAM memory is good too and offers 4 GB of DDR 3 SDRAM – 1333 MHz memory (which can be expanded up to 8 GB). The hard drive could have been a little better, and this one offers just 320 GB (7200 rpm). Of course 320 GB can be enough for most of the users, but we say it could have been better because other cheaper models of notebooks offer hard drive of 500 GB. The optical drive is ok (DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM – removable plug-in module with LightScribe Technology) but it could have been better either. And this is because other models with this price also offer Blu-ray support. There is nothing bad to say about the video card, which is a NVIDIA Quadro FX 380 M with a video memory of 512 MB. This laptop also has a built in webcam of 2 megapixel, a microphone and integrated speakers.

And of course, like any other laptop it offers easy connectivity to the internet, and its data link protocols are: Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 802.11 b, IEEE 802.11 a, IEEE 802.11 g, IEEE 802.11 n and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR. It also features most of the ports you possibly need, including a VGA port, audio ports for microphone and headphones, a modem port, a Ethernet port, 3 USB ports and others. Its battery is a very good one, a 9 cell Lithium Ion battery that has a run time of up to 8 hours.

So this is quite really good compared to other laptops that can last just for 4-5 hours. The model we discuss about so far comes from the site geeks.com, and here they offer an installed version of the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, along with other included software and also with a 3 years warranty. And finally we need to mentioned that this laptop is Energy Star qualified too.
