As possessors of an older version of HP Pavilion, we used and tested this HP Pavilion DM3 with the curiosity of actual and possible buyer of this series. We admit that we are not a fan of the 13 inches portables like this HP Pavilion DM3 because our laptops are sitting on the desk most of the time and we prefer the comfort of a bigger screen and a more powerful processor.

HP Pavilion DM3 has a very good construction and it is a very solid laptop. There are no parts moving or which make strange sounds. The disadvantage is the weight with almost 1.9 Kg which is pretty much knowing that it is an ultra portable device. Also the price is very good for what’s inside it.

The screen is offering quality and standard angles without any other remarks. It measures 13.3 inches and it is offering resolutions of 1366 x 768 pixels. The keyboard is a chick-let with ordinary size keys with good distance between them. There is no problem with writing on this keyboard. A problem is the fact that some important commands are placed on Fn.

The mechanism which opens the laptop and the one that start or stop the wireless connectivity are impressive. They are no ordinary keys but some sliders placed on the right side which you have to pull. At the beginning we found this very strange but in short time we found it very comfortable.

HP Pavilion DM3 has no internal optical unit but in exchange it comes with an external unit inside the box. The guys from AMD recently released some processors with reduced consumption like Neo K325 which is a Dual Core that gives life to  HP Pavilion DM3. The video side is represented by ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430 with 512 MB of DDR3 memory. Depending on the used program, you can switch from this card to the dedicated video card in order to obtain a better autonomy.

We can’t say that this processor is offering extraordinary performance. From this matter we place is somewhere under Intel Celeron Dual Core SU2300. With all these, we could run movies in the 1090p format while the processor was working 60%.

Toshiba Satellite L635 is one of the best Toshiba laptops for work, fun and travel without any special effects on any domain. It is not ultra thin, neither ultra light nor super premium but on the other side it makes the job ok, it looks good and it comes with an accessible price. It weighs almost 2.1 Kg, the 13 inch screen is ok and it seems that it has incorporated optical unit too. With a processor Core i3 with 2.53 GHz frequency and 3 GH of RAM it should run perfectly next to the Windows 7 on 64 bits. So it really is a great laptop.

Toshiba Satellite L635 looks like a successor for our old Toshiba because it has almost the same sizes but it is with 15% lighter. There are only two things we did not like: the plastic is shiny and also leaves the impression of cheap. The keys on the keyboard are not very distanced so you won’t be typing too fast. In rest, nothing to say, a great laptop with a super price.

The new touch pad is a bit better and the big buttons are making it very easy to use in lack of a mouse. The battery lasts up to 3 and a half hours maximum. It’s not a great lifetime but it’s ok. The sound system is better than on the previous versions if you want to listen directly on the laptop.

We enjoyed the fact that it has the HDMI and eSATA ports and we also used the card reader. We are worried about the trend of lowering the number of USB jacks which is present to all the big producers. We did not like to carry an additional accessory only to have more USB jacks available. Toshiba Satellite L635 has only two USB jacks which are placed one near the other so if you have something to insert with a freaky shape near the USB jack, the second is not available anymore.

Toshiba Satellite L635 is a light laptop which has medium level technical equipment and will work ok. The price is good; of course there are more accessible alternatives but either they have old processors or have the same features but don’t come with Windows, which we don’t recommend. The Vostro models like Studio and Latitude are part of the business class and are some of the best laptops. When the guys from Dell launched these models they also wanted to make a cheap Vostro laptop. This is how Dell Vostro 1015 took birth. It’s possible that when they tried to make such a cheap device, the quality and performances will be ignored, but we’ll see the truth in the following.

Unfortunately we were pretty disappointed by the keyboard of the Dell Vostro 1015 model. If you are the kind of guy that types a lot you will notice that this keyboard is pretty uncomfortable. Despite the fact that the buttons are pretty big and the distance between them is the right one, these are a bit rigid and make a lot of noise when they are intense used. The sharp edges are transforming the typing into a very unpleasant experience. The lack of the numeric zone is also something bad about it. We can say the same about the touch pad which is a bit long and created us some problems when we tried to move the cursor on the vertical. Because of the chromed surface it does not listen very well. The two buttons are pretty good when touched and have a perfect depth.

The strong piece of this laptop is the screen which is measuring 15.6 inches in diagonal and a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768. Having a matte anti glare screen, this screen has the ability to reflect light very well and can be used very well in open spaces even when the sun light is very powerful.

Sony Vaio F is the first Vaio laptop which actually is not Vaio. We have in front of our eyes such an approach of the guys from Sony with simple lines; too simple with massive shapes. We would prefer an approach of the old Vaio style which is more business but here they wanted a glamorous shiny design which to inspire multimedia so it can be used as a home entertainment laptop. The body and the screen are like two pieces of black massive and thick marble placed one on another. You realize that it is a massive laptop with a weight and sizes that don’t make it the best partner when you’re on the move. We don’t even think it is safe to walk with a $2300 laptop in the metro stations.

Besides the shiny plastic which is the best friend of fingerprints and the brutal shape, there is nothing else wrong. The same Sony quality at the finishing chapter and the used materials; the same robustness of the construction and the same beauty in matter of connectors, buttons and LEDs.

It’s not very generous with the ports with only 2 USB ports, a RJ-45 network port, microphone, VGA and audio out. But we like the fact that it has a card reader so the camera is not occupying an USB slot.

When talking about performance, Dell Vostro A860 will not disappoint you because it has a great processor from Intel, a Core 2 Duo T5870 with 2 GHz frequency along with 2 GB of memory and a storage capacity of 250 GB. The laptop we had was on Windows 7 and it ran great. It starts in only few seconds and it runs great Adobe Photoshop, Google Chrome with lots of opened tabs, instant messaging and many others. We tested it for 3 days and we had no errors or freezes.

The hard drive is a pretty silent one, it does not make a massage when you start a movie but the cooler is loud in some moments. The laptop does not work as a fire place; it heats up but it’s ok.
