Portable Computers

The difference between a laptop computer and a desktop is that one is portable and the other is not. I guess you can figure out which is one and which is the other. Another good thing about the laptops is that they can be powered only by their batteries included in the computer, that can be charged using a power adapter. The desktop computers use only the electrical current coming from wall outlets. The laptops also use this type of current but only when they charge their batteries. Otherwise, you can use the computer basing on the capabilities of the integrated batteries. You can keep the computer plugged all the time as well, because these smart Li-Ion batteries used today know when they are fully charged and they stop immediately the charging process.

Usually a laptop computer is less powerful than a desktop created by the same company. You can’t compare a laptop created by a certain brand with another computer, a desktop one, created by other brand. The laptop could be better and this is not our fault. All I am saying is that a desktop computer lets the technician to enjoy more space to place all the internal components, thus to use larger memory chips, processors, motherboards and so on. The challenge taken today by the processors manufacturers and generally electronics manufacturers is to create smaller chips and to integrate in those more and more information. Some of these manufacturers succeed, some don’t. The ones that don’t, let other computer brands to make their appearance on this market, which is continuously changing.

The warranty period offered by a manufacturer for a desktop and for a laptop is the same. They don’t make any difference between those two products. If you want a better performance, you should get a desktop. If you want portability and quick access to the Internet, only a laptop could offer you this. With the Wireless technologies today, you can get access to the Internet from your home if you use a desktop computer too, but you can’t take the computer on top of a mountain and say that the Internet is working smoothly. Or you could, just to prove that nothing is impossible. But you will find it very difficult to carry that monster with you to a mountain’s top.

There are difficult to transport some laptop computers, so what more should we say about desktops? They are nearly impossible to transport and to be still cheerful after doing this. And when I say transport them I mean you should take the keyboard along, the mouse and the monitor. Don’t leave the desktop to remain without its friends. A laptop computer is much easier to transport, especially if it is a netbook.

Desktop vs Notebook

Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on Jul 06 2010, in the categories: Desktop, laptops, notebooks

Each of the two types of systems has its advantages and respond to different types of needs. Only the evolution of these needs can decide a winner. Often, people who want to buy a computer are wondering: should I choose a desktop or a laptop?

Between the two devices can not be made a comparison, each having advantages and disadvantages in relation to personal needs. Each addresses to a different class of people with different needs. Some want mobility, others want computing power. Some want graphic stations, others want to use the Internet or a text editor. There are also the gamers that are only interested in games and there are people who want to turn a computer into a multimedia tool.

In the prices class we can not talk about a comparison. Mobility of a laptop, vital for those who travel much or whose job involves access to the Internet or in a text editor, is paid, still very expensive. Often, the user pays more than double for a laptop with a configuration similar to a desktop. Even if the difference in price began to decline, the laptops remain expensive compared to desktops. In recent years, laptop manufacturers have announced victory, as their sales have surpassed sales of desktops, but forgetting that the world market has reached a certain level of saturation in terms of desktops, which was naturally lead to a reduction of their sales volume.

In general, on desktop vs notebook, these two devices are quite similar. Both have the same basic components, software and operating systems. Primary difference is how components are interconnected due to the difference of space. A desktop system includes a motherboard, a video card, a unit of data storage (disk) and other components, all in a case in the form of a spacious tins. Monitor, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals it connects with wires or by radio, without requiring cables (wireless). Whether it is a case vertical or horizontal, at a desktop, there is enough space for boards that are part of the system, for cables and allows air circulation. A laptop has a size and weight much lower than even the most compact PC case. Instead of a large box with enough room for air circulation, a laptop uses a flat design, miniature, in which all components are created so as to occupy as little space and combines perfectly. Because of the fundamental differences of design, which aims for a laptop portability, its components must fit into a smaller space, compact, to conserve energy and produce less heat than a desktop system components.

Apple and Acer had some real power tours on the laptop segment. So Apple got last year, an increase in sales by 1747% (nearly 17.5 times) compared to 2004, and Acer has managed an increase of 441% according to a study made by the American company IDC. The strong increases in sales last year were obtained on the part of Fujitsu Siemens Computers notebooks. Fujitsu has overcome HP lead in portable systems and the ESC went up in third place in the standings seller of desktop systems. At the same time, Hewlett-Packard has managed sales growth on the server with 97.4%, which has provided the first place in a general classification. On the desktop computer, the company posted a sales increase of 65.7% and the part of laptops it was a sales increase of 65.7%.

Tips for choosing a laptop
Laptops are available in a huge variety of configurations and capabilities. Some of the things that need to think of when you are buying a laptop are:
* CPU and memory – these two factors will greatly affect the performance of your laptop.
* Screen Size – a larger screen can make a laptop to be more suitable for gaming or watching movies.
* Weight – As laptops become more powerful, they tend to become larger and heavier.
* Upgrade – the ability to increase system performance by adding memory or a faster hard drive.
* Durability battery – this factor depends on the time to use a laptop, until the next load.
* Security – reduced size and weight of a laptop make it an easy target for thieves, which is why many models have ports that can block the cable or movement sensors.

Tips for choosing a desktop
As with laptops, a desktop system configurations are highly variable, and factors that may influence the capabilities of a computer also. Here are some tips for choosing a desktop:
* Needs – make sure you know very well why you need a computer for (word processing, Internet, games, multimedia, etc.) before making a decision.
* Consulting – a specialist to whom to consult and explain what you want from your system and who can direct you to a computer for your needs.
* Components – choose components according to needs (attention to the video card if you are interested in games, look at the statements if you use extreme applications, attention to the hard disk if you process video files).
* Manufacturers – attention to a component manufacturer, sometimes the same card but with a different chipset can offer better performance.
* Price – if you buy the components separately and assemble them at home, you can save some amount of money with which vendors charge customers for “ready-made” systems.

In conclusion, for desktop vs notebook, at any price range we look, a PC laptop is either defeated or humiliated in terms of performance of a desktop at the same price. Perhaps the difference in performance has fallen lately, especially in the low-end segment, but is still sufficiently obvious. Do not get me wrong, notebooks have their advantages also: mobility, small size, portability, lack of wires and accessories. But a desktop, besides better performance, brings on the stage the overclocking, to be even more different then a laptop, and a much better feeling (one is to watch movies or play games on a small screen, with stereo sound, and quite another to a generous display with surround).
