Most people don’t really know what to look for when they want to buy a laptop. This is the part where a consumer’s guide to laptop computers starts being useful. In such a guide you’ll find anything you need to know about what a laptop or a notebook is, about what kind of configurations they should have in order to perform at max speed. In what follows you’ll be presented with such a consumer’s guide to laptop computers to get an idea about how things work in the IT world.
First of all, you should know that there are three types of laptops: replacements for desktop computers, sub-notebooks and ultra-portable laptops. The replacements for desktop computers are very powerful, big-screened, with a processor that enables the laptop to perform even the most demanding tasks. They are very heavy and can’t be carried around, but if you plan to use it at home or at the office, than it’s no problem. They are also great on the efficiency department and they provide sufficient power and memory if you need to edit video, photos or just play the latest games.

The sub-notebooks, on the other hand, are smaller but they don’t provide the same speed and power as the ones previously mentioned. They don’t have CD or DVD drives and their screens are smaller, which makes them portable enough, so if you need to travel, they would do. But the ultra-portable are the ones you need if you are a big traveler, because they weigh a mere 2-3 pounds and you can slip them into your backpack or suitcase or whatever and go about without any problems. The problem with these laptops is that they are very small and so are their screens and keyboards, so if you need to type a lot, you may face some problems, as the keys are a bit smaller.

Then, you’ll have to decide what you are buying a laptop for. Because there are a lot of models out of which you can choose. For instance, if you need a laptop to do the basic things like surfing the internet or writing papers or even watch movies, you won’t need the latest model. But if you are a gamer and want to play the new 3D games, you’ll need a laptop to meet all the things required by those games. Also, if you want to edit photos or video, again you’ll need a powerful laptop to perform on the most demanding applications.
Thirdly, you’ll have to think about internet connections and accessories. Most laptops come with both Ethernet and wireless connections, but you’ll have to be careful to choose according to the reasons you’re buying the laptop for. Also, accessories are important – take the battery life for instance. Most laptops come with batteries that last from 2 to 5 hours. So, if you need to travel and work on your laptop, you should check out some extra batteries to be safe. Mostly, these are the things you should consider when you are in search for a laptop computer.
