The Compaq Mini 311C is a beautiful machine, well finished, very thick and pleasing to the eye. However, this first impression is marred by the omnipresence of glossy plastics on this model. The fingerprints are everywhere, especially on the hood, it’s inevitable. The reflections are also well represented, including the screen and his entourage. Only the plastic hull, located around the keyboard and touchpad, is spared from all these brands, since it is a beautiful silvery gray color.

The keyboard has a lot of the machine. Large, flat buttons with a good size (16 mm), it provides a very comfortable typing. The touchpad has disappointed us. General, we expected exceptional comfort. We actually enjoy this large area which does not require finger movements frantic. The diamond grade is less objectionable than some other models. The real problem, instead of the precision and fluidity of the touchpad. We waste time when we should win with such a large area available.

The Compaq Mini 311C is rather noisy. A fan blows constantly in extraction on the left side. It slows down only when there is no activity on the machine. In intensive treatments, the breakdown accelerates. It’s too bad for a netbook that does not actually consume much energy. You can do much better than that.
The connector is ideally placed on the thicker side of the camera, that is to say closer to the screen as the front. The sharpness is also much larger front and behind the machine. Left side, we find an HDMI output and a USB 2.0 port and the power jack and lock the location. Right side, a memory card reader is accompanied by two USB 2.0 ports, making a combo headset, a RJ45 and 1 VGA.

On the device, a large hatch provides access to hard disk, an expansion port Mini PCI-e and an empty slot for RAM. The existing 1 GB are indeed welded to the motherboard, and it is possible to add 2 GB of DDR3 over in the machine! Given the current price of memory is an attractive solution for proposing to install a Windows 7, and it’s always a good idea to give new breath machine (even with the XP original) . We have unfortunately not been able to test the performance difference. Logically, we should gain comfort and improve the experience in some video games in particular.

The real benefit of this model comes from its chipset. The GeForce 9400M integrates it, makes it possible to decode the videos in high definition (1080p, Blu-Ray equivalent). The hardware acceleration is then used, which relieves the processor (which would be insufficient for the HD). When playing a 1080p HD movie (works on TV via HDMI, with sound), the processor occupancy is 100% without the hardware acceleration of the ION (consumption 17.5 watts) and 10 -15% on average (consumption 17 watts). The solution is effective. At rest, the machine uses about 12.5 Watts with the screen brightness at maximum and the energy saving options disabled. To use hardware acceleration, we used nine PowerDVD and Media Player Classic Home Cinema with the correct codecs.

Also note that the graphics may greatly accelerate some calculations. Photoshop CS4 and the ION to accelerate the manipulation of images. The photo montages are possible, although our test shows that the heavy treatments are not necessarily faster. On the video side, however, the software specifically optimized for NVIDIA GPUs, like Badaboom, accelerate sharply encodings.

What to choose: Toshiba or Compaq?

Nowadays the internet has become a way of living, a necessity, a must, an addiction. It is part of our daily lives and sometimes we do not conceive a world without it, without technology. I for one think that the world would be a bit harder without the internet facilities, and I am truly glad for its invention because without it my life would be more complicated and my job would take more.

A good job requires the use of the internet and of a good computer as well, therefore I am not willing to settle for anything less than the best in technology. First of all the best choice between a laptop and a desktop is definitely a laptop, because it’s the best solution when having to move from one place to the other or to work fast to meet a deadline. We have agreed then, that the best choice is a laptop, but there are so many to choose from, where to start? What is the best option? Which suits our necessities best? And let us not forget another important issue, which has the best price? After thinking a lot and I came face to face to a hard decision: Toshiba vs. Compaq laptop?

At a first look Toshiba seems better, the brand itself being one of the best on the market. Nevertheless Compaq is not that bad and some of its features may even be better than that e from Toshiba. Let’s take for example Toshiba M50 and Compaq Presario. Let us compare 2 gadgets with similar features from the two brands mentioned above.  They both have 256 Ram DDR and 40Gig HDD. Toshiba is better build than Compaq, because it has a 5400 drive,whereas Compaq only a 4200 drive. That is not a big difference bur still a difference. Still Compaq has better specs an a better look, from my point of view, but still the look is not that important if it dose not do its job well.

The biggest problem with Toshiba is the fact that it runs hot as I heard, so at one point it may slow down a little and make some strange noise. On the other hand Compaq is very silent and, as far as I know, it has no heating problems. A plus for Compaq is if you are gamer, than the Compaq is the best solution, because the Mobility Radeon 9200 is up 50 – 60% better than the Toshiba.Compaq has some issues when installing Windows, without its original drivers it is a hard thing to do, but still not impossible, so good luck!The price for the both of them is about the same, give or take 150-180 $, it depends on the accessories you want to buy as well.

Because I am not an IT specialist myself it is hard to decide which is best: Toshiba vs. Compaq laptop? Nevertheless when choosing a computer you should first think of your needs and the way you are going to use that computer, the many you are willing to spend and only afterwards think of a brand, and start comparing until you find the one that suits you best. May be I am a bit subjective, but this is the best way for me, it is for you to see if it is the best for you as well, or it is not.

Hewlett-Packard released a new laptop at a reasonable price format 15.6-inch Compaq Presario CQ61-405sf in AMD platform Tigris to less than 600 $ with a hard drive quick. This is a common laptop, for everyday use, but it is good at it.
