Throughout time, people have made serious lists, ranking computers either by price, or by performance, or by whatever else criteria. Below it is a list of the top ten laptops that fits nowadays’ needs.

On the last place is the Dell Inspiron 14z, which is a laptop for students, that has a stylish look and a great battery life, but that has an overly-polished screen (because we all know that students throw in with their laptop all kind of other stuff that may damage it) through which it is a bit hard to see. Its price is around $799.

On the 9th place is the ASUS UL80Vt-A1 that delivers good battery life, has a discrete processor, but is drawn back by its poor design features. The price varies from $783,15 to $943,55.

Next, on the 8th place, comes the Toshiba Satellite U505-S2940 that is a solid choice for general computing and entertainment, but only for that. If you need a light travel mate, you should choose another laptop.

The 7th place is taken by another Toshiba laptop – the Toshiba Satellite U505, a solid, attractive performer, whose only problem is the multitouch screen. Its price varies from $970 to $992.

On the 6th place we have Dell’s Studio XPS 16, whose sharp designs and smart features don’t come with a hefty price tag – it costs around $949.

In the middle of the list we have Lenovo’s ThinkPad T400s that features a Core 2 Duo SP9600 processor that runs with 2530MHz of speed. With its 128GB hard drive, this makes a lean, mean business machine.

The 4th is taken by Apple’s15-inch MacBook Pro/2.8GHz, that is powered by a Core 2 Duo T9600 at 2530MHz and along with its 500Gb hard drive there is also the FireWire port and the lithium-polymer battery previously available only in the 17-inch MacBook Pro. It is true that its features are great, but they are also pricy – the costs go up from $2,149,95 to $2,294.

The bronze medal goes to Lenovo’s ThinkPad SL510, which is an excellent choice for business user or students who do not goof around much. With its Core 2 Duo T9600 processor and its 500GB hard drive, it is worth every cent. Its price range is between  $898.99 – $929.00.

Like it was expected, the first two places are saved for HP laptop computers. The silver medal is won by HP Envy 13, that looks like a MackBook and feels like a MackBook but is NOT a MacBook – it is PC’s answer for slim, stylish computing. Only more expensive – it costs around $1,499.99.

First on the list of the top ten laptop computers is HP’s EliteBook 8440w, that even if it won’t win awards for ultrathin design elements or elegant looks, underneath the almost military-style exterior is a dual-core Intel CPU combined with an nVidia Quadro FX 380M professional-grade graphics processor. With a price of $1,649, the 8440w isn’t the least expensive all-purpose laptop, but it delivers robust performance in a 5.3 pound package and it builds in capabilities beyond the average 14-inch notebook.

Asus Notebooks

Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on Jul 05 2010, in the categories: Asus, Best quality devices, General info

Asus W90 – a monster of 18.4 inches, literally and figuratively. From the W90 series, Asus has launched three models that differ only by the graphics card built. Although the Taiwanese manufacturer put the W90 series in to the multimedia segment, any of the three models provide very good performance in games. W90Vn comes with Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS, equipped with 1 GB of GDDR3 memory. For gaming enthusiasts, just the name plate says it all. For those who do not know too well the graphics cards from Nvidia series , they should know that that we are dealing with a top model of the previous generation.

Asus W90 fits perfectly into the definition of a “desktop replacement“, even falling slightly into the gaming desktop replacement category. In its dimensions and with more than 6 inches thick, the laptop is an imposing presence on a desk and it will not leave it except to go to another desk. I don’t think that there are people that are willing to take a monster standing over 5 kg on their laps . In such a laptop will not fit any kind of power. The W90 comes with a power battery weighing about 1 kg and it is 4-5 times bigger than a normal one. The screen of 18.4 inches is the largest on the market for today portable and has the same 16:9 aspect that is adopted on the same market. However it comes with an important warning for those who are not good seeing. In order to obtain resolution Full HD pixels are very small. Another problem is the filter screen outdoor glare. Although we have worked with other displays of this kind, this one was among the most disturbing. Any source of light is reflected back into the monitor and for those who are easily distracted, hand movement is reflected in the lower side of the monitor.

The keyboard is identical to that of the Asus F50 and F70 and comes with related problems. Although the alphanumeric keys are large and quite comfortable, directional keys must be viewed before the presses because they are not separated from those around them and are smaller. With the generous touchpad I don’t think that you are going to have any problems. The keyboard is board in the left and the top side with several touch-sensitive buttons. Top stands for a desired backlight slider and in the left are the media buttons. Under it there is another slider touch with which to adjust the system volume. This slider can give you some headaches during use as it is quite easily reached with your left hand. Often you can find yourself with the sound off because you can accidentally put your hand on the bottom slider. Another issue is the multimedia buttons. They are active only for Media Center offered by Asus.

The laptop has an integrated sound system 5.1 speakers, the front ones being placed on the screen, and the subwoofer is on the lower side. The audio quality is good for an integrated system even in case of a laptop, but the discerning will want to use separate speakers. Another endowment at the audio chapter that is worth mentioning is the support for the second generation Dolby Home Theater technology, the audio output type is also S/PDIF type.

Asus UL30 is a glossy tempting of 13.3 inches and is part of the asus laptop computers. With the popularization of the CULV processors from Intel, ultra-laptop market has been invaded by the models thin-and-light, like this Asus UL30. Acer TravelMate 3810T Timeline is leaving everybody a good impression. To clarify at least what is with the category of thin and light notebooks, you should know that we are talking about devices that are in principle weighing less than 1.5 kilograms and a thickness not exceeding one inch. Those from Asus really think that the glossy laptop will attract the buyers eyes and that the plastic in which you can admire yourself has an important role in the purchase decision. The buyers should be peeking at Acer and take some lessons from the Timeline series. UL30 has a glossy case only at the inside, but is not a pleasure to see the rest pad and the edges of your covered with fingerprints. Surprisingly, behind the screen is coated with aluminum which gives an attractive aspect to this laptop. This material is very durable but easy to store fingerprints and other traces.

asus-laptop-computers-3

Asus has finally managed to refine the keyboard with separate buttons, and that of UL30 is almost excellent. Support key to not allow little push, and the buttons are large and airy. There are no missing key symbols and the cursors have a normal size. Touchpad with multitouch support is integrated in the restpad and is differentiated by a series of small grooves. Its accuracy is good, but it should be deactivated when you are writing longer documents because the touching counts as a click of Mouse’s. The battery occupies the whole side of the rear and the connectors are place on the sides. USB port should be more distant. It is almost impossible to connect both a receiver for a wireless mouse and a USB stick, even if both have the normal size. On the right side, near the audio plugs and above the card reader you will find a surprise slot. You can put a SIM card in it with 3G data plan, the laptop is equipped also with an appropriate modem.

asus-laptop-computers-4

If you are looking for a laptop, from Asus notebooks, to replace your desktop system at home and you are more interested in its multimedia performance, Asus K70 might be an inspired choice. Even those that are still playing occasionally can run the latest games because of the performance video card from NVIDIA. This laptop is not perfect and you have to take into account the limitations related to the angles of vision of the screen and the keyboard than is more cramped than a normal one. For those who have an LCD TV, HDMI video output will be welcome.
