Asus Eee PC

Since the creation of Internet, one of the best things to happen on this highly revolutionary and fast paced segment was the creation of wireless internet connection. This meant that any computer could connect to the Internet without having any wires attached to it and with increased mobility. So, the connection between laptop computers and wireless internet was a sort of match made in heaven, because they seem to be made for each other.

Wireless Internet service for laptop computers is not something out of the ordinary anymore. In many cafes, and in many areas, in town or at home, wireless internet is accessible and it allows immediate connection to the internet, which means that you can enjoy social networking, online games or indulge in the pursuit of knowledge wherever you are.

Some laptops come with wireless service all set up. On other occasions, clients need to demand wireless internet service for laptop computers, as a specific requirement. Another issue is with the settings once you have bought a new laptop and when you have installed some new software or a new operating system. Such is the case with mini laptop computers, which need some additional modifications in certain occasions. Say you want to set up a wireless internet hotspot in your home. First of all, do not forget to protect it. Secondly, set up the computers you have in the home, to access internet without a cable.

Now, for the tutorial part: Mini-PCs are not new to anyone. Reduced in size, they are somewhat “low” in terms of configuration, so they need operating systems that do not “eat” too many resources. Eeedora is one of these systems, adapted from Fedora (Linux) for EeePC notebooks, from the Asus brand. Connection to the Internet for these mini PCs is wireless, due to the fact that the size does not allow the integration of common network cards.

To enable WiFi (wireless Internet) on an EeePC running Eeedora, you must follow these steps: -Click on ‘X’ “in the left side of the taskbar’s (button replaces the “Start” button from the Windows operating system), then select Network -> WiFi Radar. -If your wireless network is already installed, you can edit it using the Edit button (of course after it was selected), if you have not installed a wireless network, then click the “New” button.

-Write the wireless network name (if it does not already exist in the list) then select Wi-Fi Options. In the menu select the appropriate option for your network, then click the Save button. -After configuring the network, click on Connect. You will be connected to the wireless network and your IP address will appear at the bottom of the window. Et voila! Have a nice time surfing the web from your mini laptop and from the comfort of wherever you feel like you should be.

ASUS Eee PC 1201N

Multimedia is honored with the netbook ASUS Eee PC 1201N. Behind an appearance similar to other netbooks brand lies a configuration atypical and unusual. The 1201N is indeed equipped with an Intel Atom dual-core, and the famous NVIDIA ION significantly increases the possibilities of the machine.
Handling, ergonomics: a brilliant mind abuse. Like the Eee PC 1101HA, the Eee PC 1201N uses the same shiny black dress. Although the result is quite elegant, we can not miss the (too) many fingerprints that inevitably dot the machine. This flooring is beautiful when clean but very messy when used in current, which is ultimately unpleasant. The finish is very good, while the strength seems to be an appointment with a rigid machine and has a sturdy screen hinge.  Asus Eee PC 1201N Keyboard. The keyboard type chiclet “occupies the entire width of the machine and consists of small flat buttons (15 x 14 mm) and well spaced. Typing is fairly strong, quiet and comfort is very good.

The touchpad (multi-touch) blends with the rest of the hull and noticed only by the presence of small spikes that stand out. Although touch is, therefore, a little special, gliding is fast and accurate. The bar clicks is all chrome and lies just below the touchpad. The quality is good, but the clicking noise is still quite present. Asus Eee PC 1201N webcam image is correct. The colors are well rendered and the fluidity is good.

In contrast, overexposed areas are burned, and the result is difficult to use in low light conditions.
Despite a configuration more robust than the average netbook, the Asus Eee PC 1201N remains discreet. Much of the time we just hear a slight breakdown. The murmur increases only for treatments heavy photo or video.

The connector is standard, with 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA, 1 headphone, 1 microphone, 1 RJ45, 1 memory card reader and a 2 port lock. Wi-Fi b / g / n is also present, as well as Bluetooth. On the PC, only one trap is present and allows access to the RAM. The two sites are occupied by a module of 1 GB each. The battery is removable and only slightly exceeded by the machine.

Despite the presence of two hearts, the processor 1201N is not enough to decode only the videos in high definition. In spite of its CPU stays around 80% the flow is not at the rendezvous. Fortunately ION chipset is there and can relieve the CPU of this work. The hardware acceleration is enabled to take advantage of the excellent decoding capabilities of the graphics NVIDIA. The CPU usage then goes to 11%, while consumption falls to 30.5 Watts (33 Watts otherwise, and 20 watts in standby).

Audio: headphone only passes the test. The sound from the loudspeakers of the machine is bad. Lack of depth (not low) and predominance of high frequencies. It’s classic on netbooks. Only the headphone output is correct, since it has the merit of being devoid of breath and parasites. Mobility, Autonomy: the big battery saves the day. Reading the specifications of this netbook, it was feared the worst for autonomy. Fortunately, the result is more satisfactory than expected, with still 3:35 in the video playback (Wi-Fi off, and headphones plugged brightness 100 cd / m²).

Asus Eee PC 1101 HA

Handling, ergonomics: well finished but brilliant Abuse. The Eee PC 1101HA comes in two colors: black or white. The unit does not lack class and is completely brilliant finish, except on the keyboard of the machine. While this brings an undeniable class (he should still love the shine), it is also its greatest fault. The reflections are very present and unavoidable fingerprints after a few minutes of use. It then passes his time to clean it and we finally bring himself to leave as it is (cover marks).

Asus Eee PC 1101HA. The keyboard is large, with big buttons and smooth plates (17 x 16 mm). The comfortable typing is good, despite a certain firmness. The auxiliary functions are clearly visible with a blue logo. The touchpad (multi-touch) blends with the rest of the hull and noticed only by the presence of small spikes that stand out. Although touch is thus a bit peculiar, gliding is fast and precise.

The bar for clicks is all chrome and lies just below the touchpad. The quality is good but the clicking noise is still quite present.  Asus Eee PC 1101HA webcam image is just right. The colors are a bit too hot and burned areas are overexposed. We also note a lack of fluidity. In the darkness, the result is difficult to use. It is then a good light source for light.  The Asus Eee PC 1101HA is discrete. Much of the time we just hear a slight breakdown.

The murmur increases only for treatments heavy photo or video.  Side connections, it’s very classic. We thus find three USB 2.0, 1 VGA, 1 headphone, 1 microphone, 1 RJ45, 1 memory card reader and a 2 port lock. Wi-Fi b / g / n is also present. We would have liked to find an HDMI port on this model.  On the PC, only one trap is present and allows access to the RAM. The battery is removable.

Bad news, the panel is once again brilliant. The reflections are very present and it is therefore difficult to use the Eee PC 1101HA outdoors. Even more than the maximum brightness of the slab is limited to 145 cd / m². The definition of the screen is very good for a screen this size, with 1366 x 768 pixels. Ideal for movies with 16:9.

The technology used is clearly the NT, with a response time of 5 ms equivalent models. Accordingly, viewing angles above and below are short, with sufficient reactivity for desktop use and movies. The default colors are false, with a variance (Delta E) of 10.3 and a very strong drift the blue color. The contrast is equally bad (as most laptops at the time) with a rate of 284:1. We measured black level of 0.37 cd / m², white at 105 cd / m².

Asus 1008 HA

Asus 1008HA is actually committed on the fineness of the product. Hand, the difference in volume compared to the 1000HE or 1005HA, is there. A second point of differentiation comes from its little brother caches interfaces. To strengthen the tight side of its product, Asus has chosen to put the USB and other connectivity rear dampers, which adds to the aesthetics of the whole. The keyboard takes up almost all of the surface available to a computer.

The buttons are large and comfortable to use. The arrows at the bottom right, take a particular form. The up and down arrows are grouped on the space of a single button. The multitouch trackpad is built into the shell. Its surface is marked by a series of small spikes and covers 6.5 x 3 cm. Under this element, a shiny metal bar piece, moved left clicks should.

The camera gives an image whose colors are slightly burnt in the clearest tones. However, we avoid the big dominant red visible on the latest Eee PCs tested, which is good news. The sound captured by the microphone is a little disturbed by a metallic noise continuously present.

On the slices of the unit, we find (behind the doors): 2 USB (very little), 1 RJ45, 2 mini jacks, an SD card reader and a mini VGA. To use the mini VGA, the manufacturer provides a mini VGA adapter -> VGA that fits under the hull. We were surprised by the low height of the RJ45. This is explained by the fact that the hull of the product is lowered to reveal the total height required for connectivity. Last, the fineness of the hull is double-edged sword. It is difficult to insert a USB thick (see picture below).

No access to components or netbooks as the battery. Calculations. The results obtained by netbooks and are very similar. The cause, they boarded almost all the same Intel Atom N270 or N280. In practice, either make little difference. The reported test results to an index 100, assigned to Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi3560 (Intel T9400), give 19 for the 1000HE (N270) and 20 for the 1008HA. In other words, almost the same computation time and 3-6 times longer than a good laptop based tests. In video playback, the limits of the machine are very heavy on the HD (Blu-Ray file type).

Audio. As usual, do not rely too much on the quality of the audio sections of the netbook. However, that of 1008 fulfills its role. The sound is clean, neat, the headphone output is not noisy. It is very far from a quality hi-fi, no doubt, but for a netbook, it’s okay. Mobility Autonomy. The big advantage of this computer is its weight: 1.1 kg per 10 inches. His magazine is also in the lightweight category with 190 grams. About this element, Asus has decreased the size of the metal connectors to reduce it to a thickness of 2 mm. It’s very small and it is hoped that this will not create problems twisting. Playing streaming video, screen brightness at 100cd / m², headphones plugged and Wi-Fi off, the 1008HA held 3h20. This is well below the nearly six hours of 1000HE, 350g heavier it must be emphasized. Accordingly, we place the note to 4 stars, mainly due to its weight.

Asus Eee PC 1002 HA

Published by admin, on Nov 28 2010, in the categories: Asus

Asus launches a reference about the market of netbooks, already overloaded. This is the Eee PC 1002 HA. To keep things simple and direct, it is a slightly revised and corrected the 1000H, and more elegant. Once again, XP, Intel Atom, 1 GB hard disk and RAM are the game. This umpteenth version does have its place on the market? Handling, Ergonomics. The ergonomic 10-inch models from Asus is really a notch above the others. The keyboard is large and very complete. We noted a problem of cracking on the 1000H, it is not the case here. On the hull, Asus has made a special effort and gives a much more class to its product through a shell charcoal gray and black metal edges. Only the outline of the screen glossy black plastic clashes with the rest.

The touchpad is very spacious for this Eee PC. It occupies much space available to it and offers a large area for comfort of use. Under the pavement is bar click shiny metal. It has no separation in the middle, but offers much right click and left. The webcam image is subject to a scan. This is probably due to an inadequate refresh rate. The color image is always red (it’s a bit of a trademark). On the screen is less visible since the default picture is very blue. On the slices of the unit include: 3 USB, 1 RJ45, 1 VGA (output up to 1920×1200 pixels), 2 mini-jack and a multiformat memory card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC). It is also Bluetooth.

The speaker is fairly powerful and equivalent to the new version of MSI U100. It is possible to watch a movie without headphones. However, for a better quality (and to save train your neighbors) prefer better headphones. Under the netbook, it has access to the hard drive via a first door (2 screws to remove) and a site occupied by a strip RAM 1 GB model and management of WiFi.

Calculations. Hard Drive 160 GB, Intel Atom 1.6 GHz, 1 GB of RAM: logically the results are very close to the 1000H. Asus sign once again an excellent time to boot the machine to 35 seconds. The drive offers transfer rates when reading 70 MB / s at the beginning of disc. This figure drops gradually to 35 Mb / s to the end of the disc. In summary, applications are launched quickly and the rate of transfer from an external hard drive are fast (21MB / s for large files). The operations of type file compression or image manipulation is still two to three times slower than on a conventional portable.

In video, the limits are the same as every other netbook Intel Atom + chipset 945. The netbook stops at HD files too heavily encoded type Blu-Ray. Everything else works very well if you have installed the codecs reading. Play. No progress on this point. Stick to 2D and older titles, and few resources for 3D.
