Since the end of the PowerPC 2006, Apple turned to Intel exclusively for embedded processors in its computers MacBook. But things could change perhaps in the months to come.

Due to the constant evolution of technology, laptops aren’t quite what they used to be a few years ago in terms of their price tags. Nowadays I think it’s safe to assume that virtually anyone can afford a portable system. Of course, when I said system I didn’t mean some kind of high performance device that cost thousands of dollars, I was referring to cheap, affordable laptops that are priced somewhere between $400 and $1000.

Bargains existed, exist and will always exist. Today, with a simple search on Google you can find your dream laptop at a very acceptable price. Concepts like “if I buy a second hand thing it will break immediately and it is definitely not worth the money”. This over-used concept doesn’t apply if you plan on buying a second hand laptop.

IT technology doesn’t wear off in time in terms of quality and reliability. A personal computer can last up to 10 years if used properly. Of course by that time that system will be considered a valuable artifact and stored somewhere in a museum or, more probably in your nearby recycle center. The point is that if you buy an already used laptop you save a lot of money and in most cases the product that you will buy will be almost as reliable as a system that you’ve just got out of its box. Of course there are exceptions, but it’s your job as a buyer to avoid them.

If you are planning to buy a laptop and your budget isn’t enough for a new $1000 or more expensive system I recommend you to search websites like eBay or Amazon.com. I can guarantee that you will find what you are looking for. Another solution could be visiting one of your local IT shops. Chances are you will find more expensive items than on the internet but it’s worth trying if you plan an spending a significant part of your budget. Let’s take a look at the Dell’s Inspiron 11Z. Its 4 GB of RAM, 1,3 GHz dual-core processor and generous 200gb hard drive makes it a good buy, especially if we add the price, just under $500 ( $475 ).



If the Dell Inspiron was too expensive for you then I suggest you take a look at the Compaq Presario CQ61Z. Priced somewhere around $400, the Compaq Presario CQ61Z is a reliable and relatively fast system. It has a 2 GB AMD Sempron processor, 2 GB of RAM and a hard drive of 250 Gb. If we add the 15.6 inch display we are looking at a very nice product in terms of the price to performance ratio. These are only two of the many bargains that are out there waiting to be discovered. If you are planning to buy a laptop, the first thing you need, besides money, is patience.
