One of the best producers of notebooks in the world is Acer, and today we’ll discuss more about this company and about one of its models of laptops. Acer is a multinational company which has the headquarters in Taipei,  Taiwan and has many other locations all over the world. When it comes to the public reaction it is a bit hard to tell what is true and what is a fairy-tale. Based on a bit of research I’ve done over the internet, I think I’ve managed to find two systems that are truly among those with a “five-star” rating in the top left corner.

Last year, the 12.1 inch MSI mini laptop, Wind U230 (or U230 MSI Wind12 as is known), kept appearing and disappearing from all sites and even from online stores or official pages of MSI. Now it seems to have returned and is already being offered for sale on Amazon, with a price of 480 dollars in two color options (white or black).

Hoping that we aren’t talking about another “ghost”, let’s move quickly through the technical specifications of MSI Wind12 U230, one of the laptops that got the best customer reports. The first thing that it’s worth taking into consideration is the L335 AMD Athlon X2 dual core processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. This system also has the option for a MV-40 Neo Athlon processor for the more “gaming” customers.

This mini laptop is equipped with an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card, 2 GB RAM (supports up to 4 GB) of RAM memory and a generous 250 GB ( hard drive ) for storage. It also comes equipped with an 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connection, there is an option for Bluetooth, and Windows 7 Home Premium as an operating system.

Its glossy 12.1 inch display has a recommended resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Wind12 U230 has an integrated 1.3 MP webcam, HDMI plug, VGA port, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 card reader (SD / MMC / MS / XD) and a 6 cell battery that provides an autonomy just a bit over 4 hours. It measures 18.8 cm x 29.7 cm x 2.4-3.1 cm and weighs 1.45 kg with a 6 cell battery. It weights 1.3 kg with 3 cell battery.

Last month, Acer launched its first notebook with 3D display, the Acer 5738DG is dedicated to hardcore gamers, and to all those interested in advanced graphics, photography and design. Although a 3D display is quite demanding, often requiring a certain angle from which the image will describe everything clearly, it indeed provides a very interesting visual experience. In addition, it appears that 3D Layer works quite well even without special glasses. Its 3D display makes this laptop rather unique and, without any doubt one of the best rated laptops by its customers.

When it comes to laptops, one of the first thing that you encounter, phisicaly spreaking is the weight of the system. Some may say that a heavy system is a high performance one while a lightweight system isn’t that fast. Those from Acer are keen to launching this year an ultra-thin laptop that will be only 1.9 cm thick (0.7 inch), as thin as one of the MacBook Air from Apple.

This notebook will work on Intel ULV Core i5 or Core i7, which consumes less energy and is based on the 32 nanometer technology.  Even if the processor usually runs at 1.2 GHz, with the Turbo Boost technology it may increase its frequency up to 1.86 GHz, 2.26 GHz respectively (by controlled over clocking). In addition, with the HyperThreading technology the processors can work sometimes as a quad core, so we should not worry about the future performance of the ultra-thin laptop from Acer.

The Timeline Acer Series was the first series of laptops last year on the market using the CULV platform (Consumer Ultra low Voltage). Timeline notebooks offer acceptable performance, good battery autonomy and a decent price, but, subsequently have a heavier design and a weight of 2.54 cm. Therefore, Acer plans on building the best ultra-light laptop, so that they will overthrow those from HP and become this year’s number one laptop brand in the world, with the most sales of laptops globally. Last year, Acer has managed to rank second in the rankings, thus surpassing those from Dell.

The 10.1 inch 3G Booklet made by Nokia was launched in the UK at a very steep price for 649 pounds, or approximately 3,000 USD. Why such a price? You may ask.  Firstly, it has an Intel Atom Z530 at 1.6 GHz (quite slow you may think), 1 GB DDR2 RAM and a 120GB hard drive. The 10.1 inch display comes with anti-glare technology and has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, so enabling you to view HD videos (720p). In terms of connections, we can talk about WiFi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a built-in 3G modem plus an integrated GPS. We also find 3 USB 2.0 ports, a HDMI port, a headphone jack, DC-in, a SD card reader and slot SIM / USIM.

Nokia Booklet 3G has a slim and nice design, provided by the aluminum shell and its small size – measuring 26.4 cm x 18.5 cm x 1.99 cm and weighs 1.25 kg, making it one of the best ultralight laptops out there. It works with Windows 7 Starter Edition and has an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam. Battery life can reach up to 12 hours, which does not sound bad at all. If we talk about boxing, weight does in fact matter. A heavyweight will certainly be no match for a light weight fighter. Well, if we talk IT, heavy doesn’t always mean reliable and fast, thing proved by the two examples above.
