Acer included within the Aspire 5542 series the Super-Multi drive (Read – 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-R, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD-ROM, 8X DVD-R, 8X DVD+R, 6X DVD-ROM DL (double-layer), 6X DVD-R DL (double-layer), 6X DVD+R DL (double-layer), 6X DVD-RW, 6X DVD+RW, 5X DVD-RAM, Write – 24X CD-R, 16X CD-RW, 8X DVD-R, 8X DVD+R, 4X DVD-R DL (double-layer), 4X DVD+R DL (double-layer), 6X DVD-RW, 8X DVD+RW, 5X DVD-RAM). With a width of 383 mm, length of 250 mm, and a varying height from the lowest 26 mm (front side) to the highest 37 mm (back side), the Aspire 5542 series has a standard starting weight of 6.2 lb. (2.8kg) depending on configuration (with integrated AC adapter).
Because of the physical dimensions, Acer included within the Aspire 5542 series the 103-key keyboard, inverted T cursor layout, independent standard numeric keypad, hotkey controls, international language support, 10 function, four cursor, two Microsoft Windows keys, Acer Backup, WLAN, touchpad lock easy-launch buttons, Play/pause, stop, previous, next media control keys printed on keyboard, Multi-gesture touchpad supporting two-finger scroll, pinch, rotate, flip.
Acer delivered the Aspire 5542 series with a medium range of interface ports: DC-in, RJ-11 modem, RJ-45 LAN, VGA, Headphones/speaker/line-out with SPDIF support, Microphone, Line-in, HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital-content protection) support, four USB 2.0, and 5-in-1 card reader for optional MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO or xD-Picture Card. The built-in AC adapter eliminates additional bulky baggage and unnecessary extras, while the removable lithium-ion batteries provided up to up to up to up to 3.0 hours life depending on configuration and usage, with 2.5 hours recharge time with power off, 3.5 hours with power on.
By using the Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics, Acer enabled better external video resolutions, with a maximum external video resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, at 16.7 million colors, and non-interlaced resolution with max. refresh rate: 1,280 x 1,024. Furthermore, Acer embedded within the Aspire 5542 two integrated Acer Optimized third-generation Dolby Home Theater audio enhancement stereo speakers (Headphones/speaker/line-out with SPDIF support, microphone, line-in and HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital-content ports, True 5.1-channel surround-sound output).
The Aspire notebooks were shipped with Acer InviLink Nplify 802.11b/g/Draft-N wireless LAN, Acer SignalUp technology for enhanced antenna efficiency, WI-FI CERTIFIED, 10/100 LAN, Wake-on-LAN ready. Moreover, Acer included within the Aspire laptop the following software applications: Acer Crystal Eye, Acer eRecovery Management, Acer GridVista, Acer Launch Manager, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Adobe Flash Player, eSobi, Google Toolbar, McAfee Internet Security Suite (trial version), Microsoft Works 8.5 (full version), Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 (60-day trial), MyWinLocker, Norton Online Backup, NTI Media Maker.
The Aspire 5542 notebooks were delivered with one-year parts and labor limited warranty with concurrent International Traveler’s Warranty. From the technological point of view, the Aspire 5542 was succeeded by the other Aspire 5xxx products, which currently includes the following Aspire models, such as Aspire 5810 Timeline, Aspire 5741, Aspire 5740, Aspire 5739, Aspire 5738, Aspire 5735, Aspire 5732, Aspire 5538, Aspire 5535, Aspire 5534, Aspire 5532, Aspire 5517, and Aspire 5515.
