An ASUS Eee PC 1005HA has sit here for almost one year and we realized what works and what does not work and even if now it’s not sold anymore it’s worth our appreciation. Its successor is the ASUS Eee PC1006P, it has the same features and knowing the previous experience probably it doesn’t have any of the 1005HA bugs which by the way are almost nonexistent.
The laptop has an elegant and simple design which is very appreciated by us. We had the version on black and that’s why it seemed smaller and cuter. The case is shiny and unfortunately it acts just like a magnet for all the fingerprints. Still, ASUS Eee PC 1005HA is a beautiful laptop – the 1005P looks exactly the same. From the weight side there are no problems because it had 1.3 Kg and was very easy and comfortable to carry in any position so it is one of the best laptops for traveling.

Obviously we had time to see what this beautiful toy can do. ASUS is saying that the battery will last up to 11 hours. As you would expect it is a value of some testing with everything stopped. In reality, the battery lasts up to 5 or 6 hours with WiFi and approximately 4 or 5 hours with 3G modem in the USB port. We don’t have to mention the browsing; right?

The laptop is running very bad on Power Saver and maybe that is why we used it on Balanced almost all the time. We installed the Super Hybrid Engine application from ASUS which was set on Auto all the time. The conclusion was interesting because either if the laptop was on Power Saver and was running bad or if it was on Balanced and it gained power when needed, the battery lifetime varied widely. So it’s not worth getting mad with it.
We tested almost everything that could be tested. It had Windows 7, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, Windows XP with Service Pack 3 and so on. Knowing that it has only 1 GB of RAM memory, Windows XP was the best option. It seemed that even the battery lasted longer on it. In Ubuntu 9.04 we had some problems with wireless which were solved pretty easy in the end. Windows 7 was running a bit slowly.
