Best gaming laptop

Published by OnlyBestLaptops, on Jul 20 2010, in the categories: Gaming computers

The laptops are really popular these days, and they are preferred by a lot of people instead of the already old and classic desktop computers. There are many good producers of notebooks on the market, and each laptop model has its own technical details. And according to these details each laptop can be used for certain activities.

Some are recommended just for simple activities such as browsing the internet, while others are really powerful and can be used for video games, video editing and stuff like that. It is known that the best gaming laptops are those made by Alienware, but there are also many other laptops made by other companies that can be used for playing video games too.

And a good example would be the Asus G 50 vt – X1. Among the good things of this model there is the nice design, the good performance and also the good connectivity. And among the negative aspects there are the display screen that needs some improvement, the fact that there are no upgrade options and no other extras that are usually found on the Asus laptops. The design is quite interesting, recommended for gamers, and it has some futuristic tribal paint scheme on the lid, so they will immediately grab the attention. Since we are talking about the exterior of this laptop, you should know that it has a 15.6 ” widescreen display with a resolution of 1368×768. Its weight is quite big for this size of the screen – 7.3 lbs, and its overall dimensions are 1.6 x 14.8 x 10.4 inches. So it is not such a portable laptop being quite heavy, and that’s why it would be best to use it as a desktop replacement, and not a laptop that you often travel with. But after all it is still a laptop, so whenever you really need to take it with you, you can do this.

Its processor is a 2.26 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, which is quite a nice one, and combined with the RAM memory of 4 GB will allow you to easily play any video game. You can also store a lot of big and complex video games thanks to the big capacity of the hard drive of 320 GB. This is an older model (probably from 2008) so the features it has may not look really powerful these days, but at its time they were among the best ones. And this is because today you can find newer models of processors (Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i7, and also bigger hard drives of 500 GB and even 640 GB). This model is probably not produced anymore, being replaced by others, but you can probably find as an used or refurbished product, and it can still be a good choice, at a small price.

When it was produced it came with an installed version of the Windows Vista Home Ultimate (64 bit), but if you buy it these days you can easily use it with the Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit operating system. Its graphics card is a really good one, a NVidia 9800 M Gs, so it can definitely support complex video games. But the battery life is not such a good one, and it can last for just up to 1 – 1.5 hours. So again, it is not recommended for traveling, but you can easily use it at home, plugged in an outlet. Its keyboard feels good and has a nice tactile response, and it is a full size keyboard with numeric keys too. Some people are saying that the numeric keys are just too close to the rest of the keys, and the overall keyboard is quite small, so you should test this in the store before buying it. The touchpad device is a Synaptics one, and it works really well. It works good for the simple computing activities, but it is not so recommended for playing a FPS game or a driving game.

For video games it is always much easy to use a laptop mouse. Even though it is not really portable and doesn’t have such a good battery life, it still has both wireless and Ethernet connectivity for easy access to the internet. And it also comes with a HDMI port, which means that you can connect it to a High Definition TV for watching movies and playing video games. But unfortunately the optical drive doesn’t have Blu-ray support, so you can’t enjoy the best quality possible for movies (unless you download them in Blu-ray format directly from the internet). It also has most of the ports you might need, including USB ports, a VGA port, HDMI, audio ports, a lock slot and a media card reader.

So after all it is a good laptop, good at moderate gaming, entertainment and has a nice design too. In terms of rating, it has an overall one of 3.7 out of 5. The editors at laptoplogic.com gave it 4 stars out of 5 for design, 4 for features, 2 for the battery life, 4 for performance and 2 for mobility. But after all it is more of a desktop replacement laptop, rather than a really portable one, so the facts that it is not mobile and doesn’t have such a good battery life, are not so important. It is really recommended for gamers, students, it can be a good choice for entertainment…but not such a good one for business men and travelers. In case you too had used this Asus G50 – X1 laptop, we invite you to tell us your opinions about it.
